Teens and Adults Psychotherapy in San Francisco

Contemplating whether to "Therapy" or "Magic 8 Ball"?

Contemplating whether to "Therapy" or "Magic 8 Ball"?

Q. Who are you currently working with?

A. Individual, teen, and adult. I've been working with a diverse population on various topics.

For example:

Anxiety, depression, communication, relational conflict, identity, grief, changes and adjustment, coming-out, trauma, cultural, spiritual, and health-related issues such as HIV/AIDS.

Regardless of the issues you have, I would like to help you find a way to manage challenges in your life so you don't have to put your life on hold.

Q. How long the therapy session?

A. 50 minutes or 80 minutes (An individual can extend their session.)

Q. How long do I have to commit to therapy?

A. It depends on what you want to work on. You and I usually decide what to prioritize rather than working on multiple issues. Some may see a therapist for a short term while others may choose to continue with therapy for longer-term.

Overall, consistency is very crucial in the therapy process. So, I ask my clients to commit to working with me on regular basis; e.g. scheduling a session once a week.

Q. So is psychotherapy right for me?

A. Some people are hesitant to see a psychotherapist because of the stigma which should not be minimized. However, it may be helpful to think of psychotherapy as a part of regular health maintenance. Just like any other health service, therapy is a collaborative work to promote your well-being and a relationship-building process between you and the therapist.

Even though you may feel that you have caring family members and friends who are willing to lend you some advice, it may be hard to receive unbiased and non-judgmental feedback because they are close to you. Some of you may have all the right reasons to seek therapy because you feel like you cannot open yourself up to your family and friends about your struggles. Or in some instances, your family and friends are the ones who have a stigma around therapy so they are trying to stop you from accessing professional help. Regardless of your situation, it is you who can decide how you want to manage your challenges.

A therapist is a trained professional who listens to the clients without judgment. As long as you are willing to work together with your therapist, rather than expecting the therapist to “fix” your challenges, the therapeutic relationship you will have with your therapist can provide tremendous benefits.  What it comes down to is having good communication in place. For clients, if something is not working in the session, I would like my clients to feel comfortable enough to express this so we can work things out.  If this still does not solve the issue, I would be happy to provide my clients’ resources to find a therapist who is a better match. So, to answer the question, "Is therapy right for me?", it is entirely up to you in deciding whether to find out the answer or not.

If you would like to chat with me to find out if this is a good fit for you, call today for a FREE 15-minute initial phone consultation.  (I will not get offended if you choose to work with another therapist after our initial consultation.)

Q. Do you take health insurance?

A. No, I do not take any health insurance. However, your insurance may have a reimbursement policy for out-of-network providers. If that's the case, you may be able to request reimbursement for your insurance. I'd be happy to provide you a receipt (superbill) if allowable. But please contact your insurance company first to find out your deductible and a percentage of the fee that they can reimburse you.
